7 weirdest places in India and stories behind them that will leave you breathless

India is a land of mysteries which supports a large diversity of people as well as their beliefs, Now I don’t know it’s the beliefs that make these places in India so intriguing or they are just that way, but there are places really spooky, weird and crazy in India, here is a list of such  places, now I have not listed out places like “Bhangarh fort” “ KODHINNI (the village of twins)”  “Dhanushkodi (Lost island where the remains of RAM SETU can still be found)” or “Roopkund (Skeleton Lake)”which are extremely popular this is a list of  places lesser known but  stuffed equally with crazy taboos, beliefs, and phenomenon. LEGO!

1.     MALANA, HIMACHAL PRADESH

I recently visited there and hence would like to write about it first. Of all the places this one is the craziest, the theories about their origin is a combination of legends and myth. myths say they are descendants of the mythological creatures called “Rakshasas” and legend says they are descendants of Alexander the great. Almost all of them have blonde hair, muscular bodies, big hazel brown eyes, peculiar jawlines that support both the legends and the myths about right.
Provided they are descendants of Alexander their local judiciary displays a hint of Greek laws to which intervention of police or any government bodies is not allowed,
They also believe that they are better than other human races and hence touching them, their houses or belongings or entering their temples is strictly prohibited to outsiders.
Their dialect doesn’t match even slightly with the neighboring villages and outsiders are prohibited to use their language, myths say that it was the wish of the “rakshasas” that the language doesn’t cross the borders of the village.

2.      CHANDIPUR BEACH, ODISHA

ORISSA the beautiful state that it is with its beautiful beach and the famous Lord Jagannath's temple “Chandipur beach” adds to beauty and wonder of Orissa although Chandipur beach is more of science than a miracle, however, there are stories to prove otherwise. When the tides are low you could walk kilometers (5km maximum) into the sea, the water returns to fill the void when the tides are high if you are lucky you can watch the sea disappearing and reappearing right before your eyes this is also why the beach is popularly known as “hide and seek beach” which is one of its own kind. Also, a portion of this beach is an integrated testing center for the Indian army, it is actually a missile launching site Prithvi, Agni, Surya missiles have been launched from this very place.

3.      NOHKALIKAI WATERFALLS,CHERRAPUNJI

This is one of the tallest waterfalls, directly fed by rainwater. There are folk tales regarding the name and the intensity of this plunge waterfall. According to the tales in the village of Rangjyrteh situated upstream to this waterfall lived a woman named “LIKAI” after her husband died she decided to become the financial pillar of the house but since she often had to leave her daughter unattended she remarried. The new husband not getting enough time in his wife’s life got jealous and cooked up the infant and let his wife eat it. Likai later found her daughter’s served finger in a basket (a basket of beetle leaves in her home) and realized what had happened grief-stricken and full of anger Likai jumped off the platue hence the intensity of water is considered to be the symbol of the grief and anger of Likai and the waterfall is named after her “NOHKALIKAI”.

4.      KUTUMSAR CAVES AND KAILASH GUFA,CHHATTISGARH

Kutumsar and kailash caves situated in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh are more of a natural miracle than a result of myth discovered in the  year 1993, famous for their peculiar formations 35 meters below the earth surface also making them the second largest natural cave formations. While Kailash Gufa is pitch dark with narrow passage situated in a hillock near Kutumsar caves has a special formation in shape of “Shiva lingam” to exhibit which is believed to be grace of lord Shiva, Kutumsar caves have musical magic in them the formation of Kutumsar caves are similar to the Kailash gufa, it binds 5 chambers the wall of these chambers when hit by bare hands produces musical sounds. These caves are surrounded by Kanger national park thus making it more mystical.

5.      SHANIWARWADA FORT, PUNE

Shaniwarwada fort well known for its architectural excellence belonged to Peshwa rulers under and after the reign of Chhatrapati Shahu. Its 5 entrance system(5 gates being DILLI DARWAZA, MASTANI DARWAZA, KHIDKI DARWAZA, GANESH DARWAZA, JAMBUL DARWAZA) followed by many modern government buildings is a masterpiece in its self. However, it is said to be haunted. According to the story, After Nana Sahib Peshwa and two of his sons were perished in the battle of Panipath the youngest son of Nana Sahib, “Narayan Rao” became the youngest Peshwa at the age of 16 provided the tender age the duties were carried out by his uncle (kaka) on his behalf however the impulsive Peshwa sensed his uncle’s lust for the position and held him captive, devastated wife of his uncle took help of the Gardis (a tribe) to kill the young Peshwa in his sleep. Narayan rao sensing the danger ran toward his uncle’s chamber shouting “KAKA MALA BACHAV” (uncle save me). Stories also say that the Gardis cut his body into so many pieces that his body had to be carried in a large pot to be cremated silently in the dead of the night by the riverside to this day people can hear the cries of Narayan Rao seeking help from his uncle.

6.      LONAR CRATER LAKE, MAHARASTRA

This lake as the name suggests is actually due to a carter formed by meteor impact. The water here is both alkaline and saline in nature. Many temples are situated near this lake the architectural ruins are still beautiful and date back to the time when Chalukyas used to rule, out of all these temples Hunuman temple Is peculiar which contains a rock idol of Lord Hanuman which is highly magnetic in nature.

7.      DANDARANYA

I cannot decide the state it belongs to as it includes a part of CHHATTISGARH, ORISSA, MAHARASTRA, TELANGANA, and ANDRAPRADESH. However this forest is of great mythological value according to Ramayana, lord Rama along with his wife and brother spent 14 years of exile around this place, this place is also believed to be inhabited by many mythological creatures (rakshasas) which were cursed or were punished somehow thus the name DAND (punishment) and ARANYA (forest), some consider RAKSHASA to be a tribe too.

India, the land of tales and tradition engulfing cultures in many layers, each layer full of mystery and magic to unfold. What secret lays next what truth is behind that old ruin?  We will never know until we explore. If you like my listicle do leave a comment below.
